Erie County, Ohio
Erie County, Ohio, with 264 square miles, is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Erie. It has a population of 79,551 (2000 Census). Erie County is part of The Firelands, a 500,000 acre tract of the Connecticut Western reserve, which was awarded to fire victims of the Revolutionary War in 1792. Originally part of Huron County, Erie was established in 1838, although its boundaries were not definitely established until 1845. Within Erie county are three cities, five villages and nine townships. (League of Women Voter's of North Central Erie County publication)
